Mediation in Romania follows Law No. 192 of 16 May 2006 on mediation and the organisation of the profession of mediator. Article 2 of Law 192/2006 allows parties to seek mediation in disputes relating to civil or penal matters, family matters and other fields of law subject to legal provisions. However, matters relating to personal rights and to non-renounceable rights cannot be the subject of mediation. Arbitration follows the Romanian Code of Civil Procedure (RCCP) approved by Law No. 134/2010, effective since 2013.
