IDLO, with support from the European Union and in partnership with EBRD, is working with the Government of Mongolia on the project 'Strengthening Commercial Mediation in Mongolia: Legal Assistance on the Revision of Mediation Law and Promotion of Commercial Mediation to SMEs'. The initiative runs from 2023 to 2025. Mongolia is not yet a signatory to international settlement frameworks such as the Singapore Convention on Mediation. Pre-litigation mediation is developing but not yet fully established and remains under-utilised.

The growth of private sector activities has been accompanied by a rise in civil and commercial cases. The court system is experiencing increased caseload, creating need for ADR alternatives. The project aims to improve the regulatory environment, institutional setting and practice of mediation. Further research needed on specific court-annexed mediation programs.
